Zlatan Ibrahimovic to represent Sweden at the Euros at age 39. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to return to international duty for Sweden, according to reports.
The 39-year-old AC Milan striker hasn’t played for his country since Euro 2016, when he was last seen in a 1-0 group-stage loss to Belgium.
Ibrahimovic is expected to make a spectacular return, according to FotbollDirekt, and the maverick forward will be called up to Janne Andersson’s squad on March 16.
Zlatan had previously shown interest in representing Serbia at the 2018 World Cup, but later confirmed that he will not be returning to the national team.
Ibrahimovic could appear in the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo, as well as a friendly against Estonia in March.
Speculation regarding his international future started after the 39-year-old met with the Sweden manager, Janne Andersson
‘It felt normal and necessary to meet and discuss this as soon as possible when Zlatan opened up for games in the national team,’ Andersson said when asked about their conversation.
‘I’m grateful we were able to schedule a meeting so fast.’
Ibrahimovic has 62 goals in 112 games, making him Sweden’s all-time top scorer. He has never scored in the World Cup, having scored six goals in European Championships.
