Zinedine Zidane resigns as manager of Real Madrid with immediate effect
Los Blancos were eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-finals and failed to win LaLiga.
According to Sportsmail, Zidane would have left the club regardless of whether they won the title since he had suspected for some time that he did not have the support of Florentino Perez, the club’s president.
AS, a Spanish magazine with a report Zidane has already notified the club’s directors as well as the first team squad of his departure.
Since 2016, the Frenchman has commanded the club for two seasons, winning three Champions Leagues in Madrid.
He also led Madrid to the LaLiga title last season, but they were unable to duplicate the feat this time around, going trophy-less due to injuries and an aging roster.
They were eliminated from the Copa del Rey in the round of 32 after losing in the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.
Following his departure from the Bernabeu, Zidane is believed to be a top target for Juventus or the France national team.
