Xavi presented as new Barcelona manager at the Nou Camp
Xavi has been introduced to the Barcelona fans as the new coach.
On Monday afternoon, November 8, almost 10,000 enthusiastic Barcelona fans gathered at the Nou Camp to hear the Spanish icon promise to return the team to its previous glory.
He told them, ‘I don’t want to become too emotional.’ ‘So I’ll just say one thing: we’re the best club on the planet.’ And, in order to succeed, we shall labor to the highest of standards. We cannot accept defeats or draws; we must win every game.’
‘We will work hard to win as many titles as possible, thank you very much; this is an emotional occasion for me.’
‘We require your assistance. Especially when things aren’t going well. As a club, we are in a terrible situation. We require your assistance now more than ever.’
Xavi then went on to sign a contract in front of his family and friends, who were only a few meters away.
He then posed for photographs while wearing a Barcelona shirt with his name on it.
After paying half of the £4.3 million release clause to his old club Al Sadd, the manager has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Last week, Xavi was hired to replace Ronald Koeman, who had failed to turn the team around. The club is currently in ninth place in the Spanish league and second in their Champions League group when the new manager takes charge.
