WhatsApp will be inaccessible to some users who are still using some older devices except they update their OS to the latest one. But some devices will completely be unable to access WhatsApp anything from January 1, 2021, onwards
Thousands of smartphone users will not be able to use WhatsApp from January 1, 2021, as their device will no more be supported by the Instant Messaging app.
While some users with older devices may still be able to have access to the Facebook messaging app by updating their OS, some devices will permanently scrapped out anytime from January 1, 2021, onwards.
Although, it’s never new dropping support for older devices, it has turned to a regular exercise for WhatsApp. At this period, it will somewhat affect many iPhone still running on OS older than iOS9. These phones users will not be able to access WhatsApp from January 1, 2021.
This announcement actually implies that the iPhone 4 and its models is permanently scrapped out. iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6 and 6S will only be accessible when upgraded to iOS9.
Android phone users should not be too happy as they are not spared either. WhatsApp will stop working on Android devices that are still running on Android 4.0.3 or older versions. The likes of Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Desire and LG Optimus Black are affected.
Users with such phones no longer compatible with WhatsApp must back their chats up before January 1, 2021, if they still want to access them in future.
This can be done by navigating to ‘Chat backup’ option located under Chats section in Settings.
Apart from chat backing up, users with old devices should also start seeking for smartphones that are compatible with Messaging app new system.
