TikTok is said to have “above 100 million” active users in Europe monthly. This is said to be a a blog post by Rich Waterworth, TikTok Europe general manager.
Waterworth said number of users had been increasing well enough for a long time, this was made known in an exclusive interview with Business Insider on Sunday.
He said that one won’t expect a 100 million growth without growing consistently and firmly for a long period. “We saw during lockdown people were using the platform in different ways.” Waterworth revealed to Business Insider
He went ahead saying that there were changes in user growth during the covid-19 lockdown period, but they looked at a sustained, long time of growth over the past 2 years.”
Growth was concentrated in the Europe biggest business markets, Waterworth said, however,he refrained from providing number of country-level users.
These numbers were published before the main week for the app’s future in United States, which makes up around 100 million of its closely 690 million monthly active users .
President Trump has issued a threat to close down the app on Tuesday if a sale is not concluded to relieve the company’s US arm to an American buyer.
However, Trump’s deadline seem not to be accompanied with an executive order , which gives TikTok till 20th September to seal a deal. This date in itself is doubtful after a second executive order which gives the ability of extending the deadline till November 12th.
“I am not amazed by TikTok’s numbers at all and speak to the great virality and growth they have seen during lockdown,” said the founder of Fanbytes, a UK-based TikTok -focused agency,Timothy Armoo. “The beauty of TikTok and of course its algorithm is that content is so tailored to you that even at such scale they’re able to maintain that true personalization, which I expect to be a catalyst for future growth.”
Currently, the company has announced 2 other metrics demonstrating its growth in Europe.
From the Updated staff headcount figures, which was previously reported by Business Insider , show an increase in numbers of TikTok’s employees in Europe from 1,000 that was last reported which was published earlier in the year.Today, this figure has grown to 1,600 as published today .
Out of this number, only 300 of those employees are UK and Ireland-based, the two countries which are believed to be the number one for TikTok’s European headquarters, and literally, the logical base for the company outside US.
Ireland is the abode to TikTok’s European data privacy team, with the Tiktok’s trust and safety center for Europe. The Middle East and Africa safety centers are based in Dublin. Another $500 million of investment in a European data center is in plan for Ireland by 2022.
