Russia loses its 8th colonel after fierce fighting in Ukraine
In another crushing blow to Vladimir Putin’s invasion, an eighth Russian colonel was murdered in Ukraine.
Colonel Denis Kurilo, commander of the 200th separate motorised rifle brigade, was ‘eliminated’ in battle near Kharkiv, Kyiv stated in a statement.
According to the Ukrainian army’s press office, the brigade sustained huge losses in the tough combat.
Ukraine claims that two battalion groups of the 200th brigade were annihilated, with a total loss of 1,500 soldiers.
The colonel is the latest in a long line of Russian military commanders who have been assassinated, according to analysts, revealing the Kremlin’s methods in the ruthless invasion.
Kurilo followed the deaths of seven colonels and seven generals by stubborn Ukrainian soldiers throughout the month-long conflict.
Colonel Nikolay Ovcharenko, the commander of the Western Military District engineer soldiers, was murdered in an ambush by a pontoon bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River, which killed a total of 18 Russians.
Colonel Alexei Sharov, commander of the Russian Marines’ 810th Guards Separate Order of Zhukov Brigade, was murdered last week in Mariupol.
Colonel Sergei Sukharev of the 331st Guards Parachute Assault Regiment from Kostroma was reportedly ‘liquidated’ in battle earlier this month, according to Ukraine.
‘Colonel Sergei Sukharev, Commander of the Kostroma Airborne Regiment… got lost in the “[military] exercises,” but found his way home,’ according to a Ukrainian statement.
According to the allegation, his subordinate Major Sergei Krylov was also slain.
Colonel Andrei Zakharov was killed in an ambush near Kyiv in the early days of the war, while Colonel Konstantin Zizevsky, the commander of air assault forces, died in Ukraine’s south.
Colonel Yuri Medvedev, commander of the Russian brigade, was even run down by his own mutinous men with a tank.
According to a Western diplomat, the leader was assassinated by his own men “as a result of the extent of losses suffered by his brigade.”
‘We suspect he was deliberately killed by his own men,’ the official added, adding that he was ‘run over.’
He went on to say that it was another another indicator of Russian forces”morale problems.’
‘They’ve gotten themselves into a hornet’s nest, and they’re in a lot of pain,’ the official added.
Another high-profile casualty among Putin’s men is Colonel Sergei Porokhyna.
Due to massive losses and strategic blunders, Russian Army Commander General Vlaislav Yershov of the 6th Combined Arms Army was fired by Putin last week.
Lieutenant General Yakov Rezanstev, the most recent casualty, was the commander of Russia’s 49th Combined Arms Army in the country’s southern military zone, according to the source.
