Rio Ferdinand prefers Frank Lampard to Scholes in his Midfield selection .
In an unenviable task for someone who has played with all three at club and international level, Ferdinand has determined that if he had to choose between the three, he would choose Chelsea legend Lampard.
Lampard’s goals and assists record beat it out in Ferdinand’s eyes, but he also praised Scholes and Gerrard’s abilities.
‘If I’m a boss, I take Frank because he’ll get me 20 (goals) a year,’ Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel. As a manager, I want them to describe games; he’ll get me 20, if not double-figures, in assists.’
However, Ferdinand revealed that Scholes was his favorite player to share the pitch with throughout his career, and that if he had to choose between the three, he would choose Gerrard.
Ferdinand said, ‘Scholesy was a joke to play with man.’ ‘I used to play with him when he was just in front of me, conducting the game.’ When I first joined United, he was playing off Ruud van Nistelrroy and was unstoppable, scoring 20 or so goals that season. All-around, an incredible talent.

‘Scholesy is difficult to hold out; he’s definitely my favorite player with whom I’ve ever played.’ I used to thank him for allowing me to be on the same pitch as him – he must have thought I was crazy.
‘It had to be him in his team; the ball had to go to him, and he had to be there all of the time.’ But it’s a little bit shared out in big teams, better teams that are winning leagues. Yes, we had Ronaldo, but we also had Rooney and Tevez.
‘If I’m going to a game, I’m going to see Gerrard because he has those explosive moments that the other two don’t.’ With a tackle or a target, he changes the whole dynamic of a football game.
‘Every training session, he would do something that would make you go “wow.” Player with a mental illness. We would have done anything and more if you had him at United.’
Scholes, on the other hand, had a harder time establishing himself in the England team than Lamaprd and Gerrard, and was famously asked to play on the left side of midfield under Sven Goran Eriksson.
Ferdinand snarled, ‘Disrespectful.’ ‘He’s a great player.’ You’re asking Scholesy, who isn’t a runner, to play left wing in a static 4-4-2. ‘I didn’t care about it.’
