I got into trouble for supporting ‘End SARS’ and had to leave Nigeria
Davido has revealed how he got himself into difficulties and had to flee the nation as a result of his support for the #EndSARS movement.
During a conversation on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Wednesday, September 29, the artist, whose song ‘FEM’ was chosen as an anthem by End SARS demonstrators during the statewide protests in 2020, opened up.
“I didn’t record the song (Fem) knowing the protest would happen,” he said.
He did add, though, that it was “wonderful” to watch his voice transform into a “instrument” for requesting change, but that it got him into a lot of trouble.
He acknowledged to Trevor Noah, “I got myself into a lot of problems.” I didn’t have an option except to escape the country. That was the level of horror.
“I was reblogging everything campaign-related.” It was amazing to see so many people come out with such a great attitude.”
“And let me add this: they listened to what we had to say. They were aware that we were there. Even if they didn’t make a difference, they were disturbed.”
