Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan, also known as Mama Taraba, was a former Minister of Women’s Affairs.

Al-Hassan died on Friday, May 7th, in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, according to reports. She was 61 years old at the time.

According to LIB, the former senator underwent knee replacement surgery in Dubai in April of this year.

She was a former senator who represented Taraba North in the Senate, a seat she won on the People’s Democratic Party’s platform (PDP)

She later defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and ran for governor of Taraba in the 2015 general elections as the party’s gubernatorial nominee.

Mama Taraba lost the re-run election on April 25, 2015, but on November 7, 2015, a tribunal removed Governor Darius Ishaku and ruled Aisha Alhassan the winner of the April 11, 2015 election. The Appeal and Supreme Courts later overturned this decision.
