Recall that the US government, under Donald Trump administration, preferred South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee, despite Okonjo-Iweala being the choice of the majority of WTO members. The opposition suspended the selection process as WTO selections are made on the basis of unanimous decision of its members.
This process was on hold until Donald Trump handed over office and in few weeks after Joe Biden assumed power, Okonjo- Iweala was passed.
