Chelsea playmaker Christian Pulisic tests positive for Covid-19
Pulisic will now be unavailable for Chelsea’s Premier League London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, August 22.
His diagnosis comes a week after Ruben Loftus-Cheek was diagnosed with Covid-19, and Arsenal has been dealing with their own outbreak following the infections of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Willian, and Alex Runnarson.
“Unfortunately, Christian had a positive test and must adhere to the protocols,” Thomas Tuchel remarked. He hasn’t been training and will be unable to participate.”
As they face their own Covid crisis and attempt to bounce back from their opening day defeat to Brentford, the German also warned his players to be wary of a reprisal from Arsenal.
“I’m not sure who will be on their team. It’s a tricky one to forecast. When I put myself in their position, the issue for me is that they can play the underdog part due to the complications they had with Covid and the fact that they lost their first match.
“During preseason, we witnessed how energizing the stadium could be. They’ve had a difficult start, and the entrance of a big adversary from within the city may be advantageous.
“It could lead to a situation in which they band together and strive to wow their audience with a strong performance. As a result, we must be ready for the greatest Arsenal imaginable. We should prepare for the best Arsenal possible, as they have a good coach, team, and signings.”
