Burning of my farm is a bad development – Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denounced the weekend fire that destroyed 2,420 hectares of his farms in Hawe, Gwer East Local Government, Benue State.
Obasanjo condemned the burning of his mango orchard as a “poor development” in a statement made available to media in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.
He stated that the local and state governments, as well as security agencies in Benue, had taken up the problem with the goal of apprehending and prosecuting the culprits. The former President thanked individuals who had contacted to express their support for him following the tragedy.
According to Emmanuel Otserga, Chairman of the Gwer Local Government Area, the event was reported to the council at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 30. According to reports, the farm was burned down as a result of possible arguments with residents about compensation for a piece of property that had previously belonged to the state government.
