Burna Boy and Wizkid effort have finally been crowned at the 63rd Grammy Awards after the both won an award each
This is really a great news for the Nigerians and Africans at large in the global music industry as both Nigerian afrobeats musicians, Burna boy and Wizkid, who were nominated for the 63rd Grammy Awards finally emerged winners.
Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna boy, won the Best Global Music Album category while Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, won the Best Music Video category on the collaborative song with Beyonce, Brown Skin Girl.
Beyonce’s daughter, Ivy Blue, is also a winner on the same song with Wizkid.
This is the second time Burna boy will be nominated for the same category, the first time was at the 62nd edition which took place last year but unfortunately he lost to Angelic Kidjo who won her 4th Grammys with her Celia album.
Angelque Kidjo who is so proud of African culture, at her grammys speech, reckon with and dedicated her award to Burna boy. She passionately told the world to watch out for African music as the chair is turning back and Damini is one of the people raising the roof.
Burna Boy has beaten 4 others which include the Tinariwen, Malian band.
Nomination of Twice As Tall at the Grammys is seen as “a course in the vibe and ‘hussle’ that have made Burna Boy an international music energy”.
Burna boy continues to break grounds and ascend while he effortlessly blends different styles and genres with Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae base flavour.
The Twice as Tall album features a many international musicians such like Youssou Ndour, Naughty By Nature, Stormzy, and Chris Martin of Coldplay, and Sean Combs, the executive producer. On the release date, Combs, on a video call, told him that Twice As Tall is going to break grounds while he revealed many interesting part of the album.
The video where Wizkid is among the winners, Brown Skin Girl, is seen as “global celebration of Black and brown women beauty”. The video was released in August 2020, a dat close the 62nd edition.
