Boxer Amir Khan robbed of his £72000 luxury watch at gunpoint
Two criminals snatched former world champion Amir Khan of his £72,000 Rolex watch when he was out with his wife in East London yesterday night.
The 35-year-old boxer claims a revolver was pointed in his face as his assailants took his Franck Muller Vanguard Chronograph before racing away in a vehicle in Leyton about 9.15 p.m.
The former world boxing champion turned to Twitter to recount the incident, stating that he and his wife were uninjured.
‘Just had my watch snatched off me at gunpoint in East London, Leyton,’ Khan added.
‘I crossed the street with Faryal, who was fortunately a few feet behind me. Two guys approached me, one of them demanded my watch while pointing a revolver at my head. The most important thing is that we’re both safe.’
Khan was photographed with a fan on Oxford Street wearing his showy watch, which is worth roughly £72,000 and is studded with 719 diamonds, only hours before the incident.
‘They weren’t loitering around,’ an eyewitness told The Sun, adding that Khan was obviously frightened by the encounter. They jumped into their car and drove away.
‘Amir had spent the day shopping with his wife and had had a nice evening with her. It raises legitimate concerns that he was a premeditated assassination attempt. It’s a really severe situation. He’d been afraid for a long time.’
Khan’s wife Makhdoom shared the serial number of the claimed watch on her Instagram account late yesterday night in an attempt to ‘find out who’s done this.’
‘Police were called to High Road, Leyton, at 21:15hrs on Monday, 18 April,’ a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said.
‘Two guys in their 30s are accused of approaching a man in his 30s and threatening him with a handgun before snatching his watch and leaving. There were no bullets fired and no injuries reported.
‘Police were sent and performed a search of the surrounding area. There have been no arrests at this early point. An inquiry has been launched, and authorities are investigating a number of leads.’
Khan and Makhdoom have three children, Lamisah, Muhammad, and Alayna, who were married in New York in 2013.
