Aubameyang tests positive for COVID-19 on arrival in Cameroon for AFCON
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, an Arsenal striker, is said to have tested positive for coronavirus upon arriving in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations opener against Comoros, only days after he was pictured partying with teammates in Dubai.
The striker, who was stripped of his captain’s armband by Mikel Arteta last month for three disciplinary breaches, apparently acquired the illness on his arrival in Cameroon, forcing him to self-isolate.
As a result of the unexpected development, Aubameyang will be unavailable for Gabon’s first game.
The story comes only days after Aubameyang was seen partying with Gabon teammate Mario Lemina in Dubai.
Former Southampton and Fulham midfielder Lemina, who now plays for Nice in Ligue 1, has tested positive as well.
The competition will begin on January 9 in Cameroon.
