Actress Efia Odo and 14 other #FixTheCountry campaigners arrested
They were detained after attending court to hear the final decision reached by the #fixthecountry activists and the Ghana Police Service. The court issue was about whether the group should be permitted to have a street demonstration.
After hearing legal arguments, the High Court postponed hearings until Friday morning, with a ruling due at 1:30 p.m. During the legal proceedings, several of the activists set up camp in front of the law court complex, brandishing banners.
However, once they were joined by their colleagues in the courtroom following the hearings, police officers from the Accra Region Command arrived and detained more than ten of them while snapping photographs.
Campaigners who have been demanding that the government fix what they say are worsening living conditions in the country for the past two months have been met with stiff resistance from the Ghana Police Service, which has cited current Covid-19 restrictions as a reason for denying them the right to protest.
